The kidnapper was captured by police while he was accompanying the model to the British Consulate in Milan.

Police say she was injected with an anaesthetic when she arrived at a Milan apartment, put inside a suitcase and taken in the boot of a vehicle to a village in the Piedmont region.

The 20-year-old was kept chained to a wooden dresser in the farmhouse.

The woman was released when the man discovered she had a child, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, but police said it was unclear why she was freed.

A polish national who lives in the United Kingdom has been arrested on kidnapping charges.

She arrived at an apartment the following day for the shoot, where she was attacked by two men, say police.

"Analysis of his email shows this man belonged to an organisation called "Black Death", Milan prosecutor Paolo Storari said in a media conference overnight, The Telegraph Reported.

A Milan court heard the woman arrived in Milan on July 11 and was seized near the central station when she was drugged with ketamine.

During her detention, Herba had demanded the model's agent pay $300,000 to avoid the model being sold online though no ransom appears to have been paid, police added.

Officers went through Herba's phone and computer and said they found photos of the woman and material stating she was for sale, while hair from both the model and Herba was found in the boot of his auto.

Investigators believe the man had already organised a number of online auctions for trafficked women - however it is unclear whether the victims were real or not. It is now unclear why the kidnapping came to an end.

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was held prisoner for a week after being drugged, authorities said.

The police investigation into the network is ongoing.
