SDCC 2017: Stephen Spielberg's Ready Player One gets its first trailer

The overcrowded slum area that simply stacks trailers and mobile homes on top of one another in an accident waiting to happen.

The film, based off of the novel by Ernest Cline is set in a dystopian future of 2044 filled with overpopulation and the economy on the verge of collapse.

Parzival plays as an egg hunter - or gunter - and the objective behind the game is for someone to discover the hidden easter egg left behind by its creator, James Donovan Halliday (Mark Rylance), the founder of Gregarious Games.

Warner Bros. has dropped the first teaser trailer for Ready Player One during their Hall H San Diego Comic-Con panel, and it's glorious. "Ready Player One" is scheduled to release on March 30, 2018. A teenager named Wade Watts solves the first puzzle, but quickly discovers that people are willing to do very bad things to crack the puzzles before him. Among the star-studded cast bringing the film to life are Hannah John-Kamen, T.J. Miller, Ben Mendelsohn, Olivia Cooke, Tye Sheridan, and Kiera Bell.

Minneapolis authorities have not released the woman's name. "She was treasured and loved and we will really miss her", Reed said. Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges said the two officers were responding to a 911 call regarding a possible assault.

The trailer does include a shot of The Iron Giant from Brad Bird's cult animated movie, but that's a '90s film! There are a few obvious references here, including the Iron Giant, Freddy Kruger, and a DeLorean.

What do you guys think of the trailer? All of this to say that when news broke that Steven Spielberg, a master of science fiction and action adventure, was returning to his roots with the adaptation of the popular book Ready Player One, we could hardly contain our excitement.

Cline's novel is well known for including dozens of references to 1980s movies, including some of Spielberg's own films.
