Sears to sell Kenmore brand on Amazon

The full line of Kenmore appliances is expected to be available at a later date.

Sears (shld) has become the latest brick-and-mortar retailer to turn to Amazon.com (amzn) to get a desperately needed sales lift. With the Alexa partnership, for example, customers can use Alexa voice-activated technology to instruct their Kenmore air conditioner to a certain temperature.

Sears also announced it would be adding Amazon's Alexa voice assistant into a new line of smart appliances.

Sears Holdings struck a deal to sell its Kenmore brand on Amazon.com in a classic if-you-can't-beat-'em-join-'em deal that gave hope to the ailing department store chain's investors.

In a 2016 interview with Vice, he described the current state of Asian representation in rap and hip hop music. Campbell gave the group a record deal, served as their manager, and joined the group as rapper Luke Skywalker.

The company's Sears Home Services and Innovel Solutions units will supply service for delivery, installation, and extended product protection for Kenmore products sold on Amazon. Customers can enable the Kenmore Smart skill in the Alexa Skill Store, link their account and then begin asking Alexa to interact with their Kenmore Smart appliances. The chain has considering selling additional lines, including its DieHard auto batteries and Kenmore appliances businesses, and is unloading its vast real estate holdings.

Shares of Sears Holdings jumped more than $1.69, or 19.3 percent, to $10.36 in early trade. The S&P 500 index is up almost 14% for the past year.

It is perhaps ambitious to suggest Kenmore may once again reach this lofty height, but, in a release, chief executive Edward Lampert said, "We continuously look for opportunities to enhance the reach of our iconic brands to more customers and create additional value from our assets".

This isn't the first time that Kenmore appliances have been available on Amazon, period: Third-party sellers offer gray market parts, accessories, and even some appliances on the site's marketplace.
