The 57-year-old puppeteer inherited the iconic role in 1990 following the death of Jim Henson - who created the Muppets - but will no longer lend his vocal talents to the high-pitched amphibian.

According to The BBC, voice actor Steve Whitmire has quit, after 27 years.

He will be making his first appearance on "Muppets Thought of the Week" next week, though it is unlikely you will be able to spot any difference to the actual voice.

Vogel took over voicing the Count when "Sesame Street" regular Jerry Nelson died in 2012 and soon took over many of Nelson's characters. He also voiced several characters in popular children's TV show "Fraggle Rock" from 1983 to 1987, including Flange Doozer, Sprocket and Wembley Fraggle.

Even if he's healthy enough to play at Wimbledon , his lack of preparation on grass prior to the event is a concern. The pressure Andy Murray feels at Wimbledon actually helps him concentrate better, the defending champion has said.

The spokesperson who told CNN about the change didn't offer a reason why Whitmire being replaced.

Longtime Muppet performer Steve Whitmire will reportedly no longer be with the famed group.

Representatives for Disney, which owns Muppets Studio, didn't immediately return a request for comment Tuesday about the motivation behind the move.

He was a "mainstay" of the Muppets and also voiced for Ernie on Sesame Street, the Times reported. He lends his voice to other classic characters such as Floyd Pepper, Lew Zealand, Uncle Deadly, Big Bird and Count von Count.
