Onus on Russian Federation to end Ukraine war, says U.S. secretary of state

U.S. Secretary of state arrived on Sunday with his delegation to the Ukrainian presidential administration in Central Kiev, Poroshenko met Tillerson, they shook hands, and went to talks in the administration building.

Moscow has repeatedly said the Ukraine crisis is an internal conflict and that Kiev is not fulfilling its part of the Minsk agreements and refusing to negotiate with its own people in Donbass.

He added, "I think the point was made that this was an issue that really has the American people quite concerned and again it, too, stands as an obstacle to our ability to improve our relationship between the United States and Russian Federation, and it needs to be addressed in terms of how we assure the American people that interference in our elections will not occur by Russian Federation or anyone else".

Washington has appointed former ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker as a special representative to Ukraine.

During a short visit to Poland ahead of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, this week - on the sidelines of which he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time - USA leader Donald Trump called on Russia to "cease its destabilizing activities in Ukraine and elsewhere".

The driver in that clipped vehicle told ABC7 that the plane hit the rear end of his truck, which then went out of control. IRVINE (CBS) - CBS in Los Angeles is reporting that a plane has crash landed on the Interstate 405 freeway in Irvine.

A primary goal of the United States "is to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty", he said. Russian Federation annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine in 2014.

The US and the European Union have imposed sanctions on Russian Federation, though Moscow has denied backing the rebels. He thanked Tillerson for the continued US commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and expressed deep appreciation for his "symbolic and timely visit immediately after the meetings at the G-20 in Hamburg" where Trump met with Putin. "I don't know if we will ever come to an agreement, obviously with our Russian counterparts on that".

"In all candidness, we did not expect an answer other than the one we received", he said Sunday.

In that role, Volker will lead US efforts to implement the 2015 Minsk agreement aimed at halting the fighting in Ukraine's eastern Donbass region.

Under the Obama administration, the USA had taken a hands-off approach to Minsk, allowing the Europeans to take the lead. With EU and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation support, Ukraine has come a very long way in the past three years with an ambitious reform programme, and it has begun to bear fruit with the DCFTA and visa liberalization.
