Venus Williams blamed in fatal Palm Beach Gardens crash

TENNIS star Venus Williams has been blamed by cops over a auto crash which killed a 78-year-old man - just days before the start of Wimbledon.

Reportedly, the other driver's husband, Jerome Barson, a 78-year-old man, was in the vehicle with her and suffered head trauma and was taken to the ICU, where he died two weeks later.

Jerome Barson was taken to a hospital and died two weeks later.

The New York Post reports that the auto, driven by the wife of the victim, then T-boned Williams' SUV.

Venus told police there was a jam and she had to slow to a crawl, leaving her vehicle exposed.

Williams, according to the report, told police she was stopped in the median of the intersection because of other traffic.

The last time a Confederations Cup final did not feature a team from the continent was in 2003, when France beat Cameroon.

According to the Daily Mail, this is not the first time Williams has had trouble on the road. Barson's wife was reportedly also hospitalized for injuries, including broken bones.

Attempts to reach Williams, 37, for a comment on Thursday were unsuccessful.

Williams may now find her hopes of a Wimbledon comeback dashed if charges are pressed.

In September 2009 she was cited for driving with no proof of her insurance.

According to a police report obtained by the news site, the accident occurred on June 9.

Her license was suspended on May 8, 2013, for failure to pay fines.
