Big Bang's Taeyang to release a song for the Pyeongchang Olympics

Big Bang's Taeyang to release a song for the Pyeongchang Olympics

A North Korean official Friday said he will discuss the idea of co-hosting South Korea's 2018 Winter Games with Olympic chief Thomas Bach, as Seoul denied suggesting such a move.

South Korea's newly appointed Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Do Jong Hwan made the suggestion during a visit to Pyeongchang on Tuesday, the JoongAng Ilbo reported yesterday.

He also said he can relay Seoul's wish for the creation of a unified team to the North Korean government, indicating that he may play a bridge role between the governments of the two Koreas concerning the issue.

A North Korean taekwondo team will join South Korean athletes this weekend in a demonstration at the opening ceremony of the sport's world championships in Muju, South Korea.

With the new role, Taeyang will be in charge of performing the Olympic Winter Games' song, and promoting the worldwide multi-sport event.

The proposal could receive criticism from the United States, which is reeling from the death of Otto Warmbier, a University of Virginia student who was arrested by North Korea in 2015 for allegedly stealing a propaganda sign during his trip to the country.

"We are now reviewing all the ideas put forth by the government and we look forward to discussing this with the International Olympic Committee during their next visit", said Nancy Park, a Pyeongchang 2018 spokesperson.

Sean Spicer might be leaving White House podium
Traditionally, the White House carves out separate roles and staffs for the press secretary and communications director. Acosta said the White House is "stonewalling" and called the situation "bizarre".

His appointment is aimed at drumming up public support for PyeongChang Olympics, which will be held from February 8-25, 2018 in PyeongChang in Gangwon Province, South Korea.

"If the neighboring countries in north-east Asia, including North and South Korea, can host the World Cup together, it would help to create peace".

"Sharing some Pyeongchang Olympics events with the North is simply out of question", he added.

A liberal candidate from the Democratic Party, Moon has pledged greater dialogue with North Korea in a bid to reduce tensions.

Last month, Christophe Dubi, the IOC's executive director for the Olympic Games, claimed the organisation are monitoring the situation on the Korean peninsula prior to Pyeongchang 2018.

Per the Guardian, no North Korean athletes have qualified for the 2018 Games yet.
