Sensex ends 152 points lower; Nifty settles below 9600-level

The BSE and NSE will remain closed on Monday on the occasion of Id Ul Fitr. Nifty broke below the 9,600-mark.

However, the markets gave up all their gains during the second half of the trading session as weakness in global crude oil prices triggered heavy selling in the shares of oil marketing firms. Nifty also closed in on 9,700 in Thursday's afternoon trade after which the erosion started which continued till Friday.

All indices led by auto, healthcare and banking showed up in the green.

To that end, Amazon is encroaching on territory long dominated by the likes of UPS, FedEx and the U.S. The deal is going to "change how you buy food forever", in the words of USA Today .

Similarly, Nifty too witnessed a steep fall from its day's high of 9,698.85, to end the day at 9,630.

The US Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.27 per cent lower on Wednesday. The decline in both these indices was higher than the Sensex's decline in percentage terms.

Top gainers on Friday included Sun Pharma, Power Grid Corp, Wipro, Vedanta, ICICI Bank, Aurobindo Pharma, Dr Reddys Labs and Cipla while key losers included Tata Motors, Hero Motocorp, Bank of Baroda, SBI, ONGC, Bosch and BHEL. BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 1.21% at 14,583.

Fortis Healthcare shares slumped almost 13 percent after Malaysian hospital chain IHH Healthcare Berhad said it was nowhere close to concluding a deal to buy a majority controlling stake in the company.
