Marshawn Lynch dropped some gems speaking to the media

Marshawn Lynch dropped some gems speaking to the media

That's right, according to Lynch, he made a decision to un-retire "when I found out Raiders were leaving" Oakland for Las Vegas.

In his first news conference since he was acquired by the team in an April trade and agreed to a restructured contract, Lynch said he wants children now growing up in Oakland to be able to see a home-grown football star play for the Raiders before the team is gone.

Asked today when he decided he wanted to come back and play for his hometown team, Lynch answered, "When I found out they was leaving". The Raiders and Lynch agreed to a two-year contract.

Ryan is now a student at Vassar College.

The NFL and the Raiders announced in March they'll move to "Sin City" and occupy a 65,000-seat stadium, which will cost around $1.9 billion to build near the Las Vegas Strip, according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King.

Lynch continued to stress the importance of being a symbol of hope for the city of Oakland, allowing the people there to watch somebody perform from the area.

And to hear Lynch tell it, returning to Oakland was the biggest factor in ending a one-year retirement, even more so than a potential Super Bowl run with an up-and-coming team. "I don't know, I think it's no different".

Three races are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, with Artemis facing Emirates Team New Zealand once more while Groupama face holders Oracle.

It is this writer's opinion that no matter how "great" Lynch is on the field, his legacy will be his work in Oakland off the field.

"Knowing they was leaving..." That actually came from him during a press conference on Tuesday, his first with his new team, during OTAs. "That's good what they got going on, all that good [expletive] like you said, but I have a whole, new Oakland behind me, and the way we feel just about where we're from, why we represent where we're from so hard is because we know what the struggle is, and how we get down". "Maybe them staying (as opposed to moving to Las Vegas) wouldn't have been so big for me to come and play".

"I got the town - you feel me, though? - behind me", Lynch said.

There were billboards welcoming Lynch back home and palpable excitement for Oakland fans.

This is actually (where I was) born and bred and pissing in them hallways and running down alleyways.

To be honest, it was heartfelt but at the end of the day I still walk outside. The billboards are for the commercial people, but when we get outside and you walk in the cracks, you get to find out what's real. Now I get the opportunity to play here.
