Delhi Diary: Speculation Over Mega Star Rajinikanth's Political Role

Even actor-politician Sarathkumar has opposed the idea of Rajinikanth becoming a politician, saying he came to Tamil Nadu to be an actor and he should just stick to that. I don't think he will join any national or regional party.

"If he (Rajinikanth) does join the BJP, which I will absolutely look forward to, I would like to tell him that the BJP has an appropriate position for him", Mr Gadkari said in response to a question posed during a television interview on Monday.

"Naan pachai Tamizhan (I am a pure Tamil)... if you ask me to get out and throw me away, I will land only in the Himalayas and not in any other state", he said.

Following his statements, Rajinikanth was snubbed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy over his Maharashtra origins.

Fans of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth went on a rampage in north Chennai on Tuesday morning against outfits who have advised the popular actor to stay out of politics, forcing police to cloak the city in a security blanket.

The radical pro-Tamil group stepped a stir outside Rajinikanth's residence at Poes Garden in Chennai, shouting slogans against the actor. For 23 years I was in Karnataka and 44 in Tamil Nadu.

"Even God can't save Tamil Nadu" if AIADMK was elected again, he said.
