DJI Spark announced - your new selfie camera

An SDK is also available for the Spark platform, which includes a partnership with Epson, including coding while using drones, or for use with the first-person view goggles, allowing developers to get a bit more creative with flight modes or capture features.

DJI Spark will take a selfie, and all you have to do is make a gesture with your hand. The drone can take off from your hand and can be controlled by hand gestures. Rolling shutter and shakiness are reduced by the 2-axis mechanical gimbal and UltraSmooth technology. The camera itself, though, has a 12-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor, that can capture up to 1080p videos.

The DJI Spark is a small handheld drone that requires no separate controller, all the work is done on your smartphone.

Spark incorporates a new QuickShot Intelligent Flight Mode that, when selected, will fly a Spark along a preset flight path while recording a short video and tracking a subject along the way. The idea is to make drone flying simple enough for everyone and thus it can be controlled by hand gestures alone. QuickShot is a mode that lets you capture cinematic shots without doing anything. In a video showing off the Spark in action, it was carried on someone's belt, but I'll need to spend some time with it hands-on to see whether I'd feel as comfortable throwing it in my bag as I do with the Mavic; those rotors are thin, and it's easy to imagine one snapping off.

DJI Spark is considered to be the best drone at present- Period. Additionally, a Fly More bundle brings other accessories and a carrying case for $699.

A separate Sports Mode allows the Spark to reach its top speed of 31 miles per hour (50 km/h), and switches the gimbal to FPV mode for use with DJI's Goggles for first-person view flying.

Kyrie-markable: Irving's 42 carries Cavaliers past Celtics
If that's the case, the Celtics will need to perform just as well as they did in Game 3, if not better, for Tuesday's contest. James did not do that Sunday in a 111-108 loss in which the Cavs owned a 21-point lead midway through the third quarter.

The drone also includes previous DJI drone shooting modes including PanoMode, which creates horizontal or vertical panoramas, and ShallowFocus, which allows part of a photo to be put in sharp focus, while the rest of the image is softened. (DJI Googles still haven't shipped yet.) The Spark's battery life is a disappointing 16 minutes, and the range for video transmission is 2km when flying with the remote controller. The drone's so-called 3D Sensing System also uses front-facing sensors to keep it from running into obstacles.

The U.S. retail price of a DJI Spark, including aircraft, battery, USB charger and three pairs of propellers, is $499.

Spark will also give guidance on where there maybe be restrictions on using the drone, with its DJI's GEO System or NFZ geofencing.

A LiPo battery powers the Spark drone and it can fly for about 16 minutes. Pre-orders will start shipping in mid-June.

Announced in an event staged in Grand Central Station, the Spark is available for preorder starting today and is priced at $499.
