Sevilla allow Jorge Sampaoli to accept Argentina job

Sevilla says it has almost reached an agreement with the Argentine soccer federation to let Jorge Sampaoli coach his country's national team.

"All parties are satisfied with the agreement reached".

Sampaoli leaves Sevilla having guided them to the top four but, for much of the season, this was a campaign that promised more.

"The agreement is subject to the writing and presentation of relevant documents, which must be signed by all parties on Thursday 1 June".

Argentine FA President Claudio Tapia said last month that Sampaoli was the only candidate to succeed Edgardo Bauza who was sacked in April after eight games in charge.

He steered the club to the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time since 2010, but they went out to surprise English champions Leicester City 3-2 on aggregate after failing to take their chances in a one-sided first leg.

Trump to visit Israel in search of revived peace process
The leaders of Arab and Muslim-majority countries are gathering to hear President Donald Trump speak in Saudi Arabia. Most countries consider all Israeli settlements, including those built with official sanction, to be illegal.

Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli is free to leave the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and join Argentina if his £1.3m release clause is paid in full.

It is understood negotiations hinged over the AFA's willingness to pay a release clause in Sampaoli's contract with the Spanish club.

The AFA recently named a squad of players competing overseas for next month's worldwide friendlies but are keen to tie Sampaoli as soon as possible.

The two-time World Cup winners are struggling to qualify for the 2018 tournament in Russian Federation and are fifth in the South American standings with only four games remaining.

Argentina's next outing is the MCG friendly against Brazil on June 9 with their next World Cup qualifier away to Uruguay on August 31. Only the top four sides will qualify directly for the tournament in Russian Federation.
