'I'm innocent': Serial Street Shooting suspect's first court appearance

The gunman who terrorized Phoenix past year with a series of seemingly random shootings - killing nine people in four months - is behind bars, police said Monday.

Saucedo now faces a total nine separate murder charges.

Numerous shootings took place in southwest Phoenix, with the victims targeted as they stood outside homes or walked about the area's predominantly Latino, working-class neighborhoods.

A shooter stalked victims after dark and gunned them down as they stood outside their homes or sat in their cars.

"To bring this killer to justice and get it right", Stanton said.

Phoenix police say ballistics evidence and community tips pointed to Saucedo, who was recently arrested in a 2015 murder case. They had a clear mission.

Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery's office obtained a court order sealing records related to the initial court appearance of 23-year-old Aaron Juan Saucedo in the case dubbed the Serial Street Shooter.

While Monday's news puts to rest one mystery, another remains: The authorities said they were still investigating a series of shootings along highways in the Phoenix area that they said appeared to have no connection to the Saucedo case.

The 2015 victim was a 61-year-old man who had dated the suspect's mother, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said.

Mr Castro-Garcia, 19, was fatally shot on June 10 2016.

Aaron Saucedo was arrested for a fatal shooting in April, but. has since been re-booked in connection with another 26 charges in connection with shootings from March until July of 2016. Police said they expect to pay out the $75,000 reward posted for information leading to an arrest.

Castro-Garcia, 19, was shot and killed on June 10, 2016, when five of the victims were shot within a 10-day period.

Other victims cops believe were killed by Saucedo are Diego Verdugo-Sanchez and Krystal White, who were both gunned down in April of past year; and Horacio De Jesus Peña and Manuel Castro Garcia, who were fatally shot last June.

- Diego Verdugo-Sanchez was shot dead on April 1, 2016 in front of his home.

" 'I had a gut feeling it was him, ' she told paper on Monday".

Smith said she had grown frustrated as detectives kept her in the dark about the investigation. "But they wanted me to find out from them and not the news".

"[Police] said they couldn't give me a lot of details, as it's still an active case", Ellis said. "Today we are closer to providing them the justice they deserve", Williams said.

Authorities say a suspect has been arrested in series of shooting attacks in Phoenix past year that left at least seven people dead and two others wounded over a four-month period.

Police also have linked Saucedo to the April 19, 2016 death of 60-year-old Krystal White; the June 3, 2016, death of Horacio de Jesus Pena; and to the killings of two women, Angela Linner and Stefanie Ellis, and 12-year-old girl Maleah Ellis on June 12, 2016.
