The High Commissioner also referred to the appeal process in Pakistan, saying Jadhav can always go to an appellate court and if the verdict is upheld then he can file a mercy petition to the Pakistan Army chief and the Pakistan Prime Minister.

The mother of Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian man sentenced to death in Pakistan allegedly for spying, has filed an appeal at a higher court in Pakistan.

A Pakistani military court this month ordered the punishment for Jadhav, after he was accused of espionage and sabotage activities in Karachi and Balochistan. Jadhav's mother has also requested the intervention of Pakistan Government for his release and expressed the desire to meet him. Pakistan was also requested to facilitate visas for the mother and father of Jadhav, who has been charged with carrying out espionage activities. "They have applied for necessary visas with the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi".

On India's position that the whole trial against him was "farcical and done in a hush-hush manner", the Pakistani envoy asserted he was tried in a military court because it was not possible to try him in a civilian court.

"This was purely an act by the Army to which the Army as an institution said we will not compromise on his sentence", he said.

After the meeting, Bambawale told reporters the appeal was filed in line with legal requirements within the stipulated time of 40 days.

This is the second time that high commissioner Bambawale has met Janjua since the sentence was announced. "I have demanded this".

In March a year ago, authorities released a video in which the Indian spy confessed to New Delhi's alleged involvement in terrorist activities in Balochistan.

He claimed that TTP was getting funding and material support from India's external spy agency, RAW through Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS). "The Indians had given them special documents to help them move around Afghanistan easily", Ehsan alleged. "The said Mr. Kulbhushan Jadhav is awarded death sentence over charges of terrorism and spying for India's Research and Analysis Wing, which is totally false and baseless".
