Patriots schedule 2017: New England will be tested, but not often

The NFL released the entire 2017 schedule on Thursday and it is absolutely loaded with big-time matchups and potential for playoff-impacting results. They finished 1-2 in the NFC East in 2016. The Chiefs will host Washington on Monday Night Football in Week 4 and then turnaround and travel to Houston for a Sunday Night Football matchup with the Texans in Week 5.

We hope to avoid a Thursday night dud with Chiefs-Raiders in an AFC West showdown that could prove huge in the playoff race.

The Atlanta Falcons will head into the 2017 season with one goal in mind, overcome the final hurdle they narrowly stumbled at in last season's Super Bowl. The Browns and Jaguars are the only teams this season that won't face a short week and who won't have to tweak their weekly schedules at all to accommodate alternate game days or times.

Instead both teams are taking 10-hour flights - 10-hour flights! - to London in the middle of the season. And in the middle, there's a game featuring the Los Angeles Chargers, who went 5-11 previous year, and the Cowboys, who went 13-3. The other is against the Ravens, who went 8-8 a year ago and aren't exactly star-filled.

It will be the Patriots' second visit to Azteca Stadium, having played a preseason game there on August 17, 1998, against Dallas. The only other came in 2006, a 23-3 home win over the Raiders. Clark Hunt wants earlier home games when the weather is nice but once again they're given three December home games.
