Staff shake-up at White House as deputy chief of staff leaves

"Katie Walsh has accepted a position with an outside organization".

Deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh said Thursday she decided to make the move after the Trump-backed health care bill failed last week to amass enough support to clear the House.

Walsh's departure comes as the Trump adminstration is mired in controversy over ties to Russian Federation and after the failure of Trump's first major legislative action, despite Republican control of both houses of Congress and the White House.

All three denied that Walsh was sacked.

Priebus and other White House officials stressed that Walsh was the one who chose to leave the administration.

A source familiar with the inner workings of the White House who called the move a "tremendous loss", and noted the frustration inside the White House after the administration's failure to get Republicans to coalesce around a health care bill supported by Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan.

A source familiar with the situation added that "getting that coalition on the outside to support this is significant".

Walsh will work with America First Priorities, one of several pro-Trump outside groups, according to her fiance, Mike Shields, a fellow Republican operative. Bannon said she had to convince him to let her leave.

A Washington Post reporter tweeted that Walsh was seen as a "leaky vessel" by other White House personnel.

Before serving as chief of staff at the RNC, Walsh worked on a number of political campaigns, including Sen.

Just this week, the family expected to be its principal funders, the Mercer family of NY, defected to a rival nonprofit, Making America Great.
