Dusseldorf police: Several people injured in ax attack at train station

Counter-terrorism police were reportedly dispatched to the scene and were able to arrest two people.

Another police spokesman said police were investigating whether more attackers had been involved but had no indication of that.

"Several people" are believed to have been injured and images posted on social media showed paramedics treating the wounded.

Anti-terror police swooped on the station in western Germany today after reports of a "crazed man" on the loose.

"Station closed. I am in the train thins look bad #police #terror", said Bruno Macedo, who witnessed the attack, in a tweet. The rail station remained shut down, he added.

Heavily-armed special police forces swooped in on the station, located in the center of Germany's ninth-largest city.

The station has since been evacuated with a heavy police presence now on scene.
