Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar elected Mumbai Mayor with BJP support

Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar elected Mumbai Mayor with BJP support

However, the election did have its moments of competition when BJP corporators boisterously raised the chants of "Modi, Modi" which the Sena members countered with equally boisterous chants of "Balasaheb Thackeray", the late Shiv Sena founder. With 160 votes out of 227, Vishwanath Mahadeshwar is elected as the new mayor of the municipal corporation.

Vishwanath Mahadeshwar has been elected the next mayor of the municipal corporation via a show of hands in the BMC mayor elections held this noon. The Congress, which had bagged 31 seats, had nominated Vitthal Lokare for the position.

Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's (MNS) seven corporators remained absent from the Corporation Hall. But their slogan war marred the election process, clearly indicating all is not well within the two parties. "A Ramnarain Ruia College graduate, he was previously principal of Raje Sambhaji Vidyalaya and Junior College in Santacruz".

Also new is a rev-matching function which automatically blips the throttle on downshifts to smooth out the gearshifts. Honda says: 'An enhanced selection of driving modes give the auto greater usability compared to the previous Type R'.

With more than 70 per cent corporators belonging to Sena-BJP, the BMC House wore a saffron look as both party corporators were clad with phetas and shelas of that colour.

"We welcome the BJP's stand and are thankful to the Chief Minister that he finally understood and respected the sentiments of people, who are are with the Sena and support the party", Shiv Sena Minister Diwakar Raote had said. Responding to a query on how she views the BJP backing the Sena nominee in the mayoral poll against the backdrop of vitriolic exchange between the allies ahead of last month's polls, Gorhe said, "They (BJP) did what they thought was right".

Maharahstra Chief Minister had on March 4 said that the BJP is ready to support the Shiv Sena but would not take any post including that of deputy mayor, leader of opposition or chairmanship of any committee in the BMC. He has been a member of the education committee in one of his earlier terms. But Mahadeshwar is facing legal trouble after a case has been filed in the court challenging his election.
