Andrew Bogut Suffers Left Leg Injury in Cavaliers Debut vs. Heat

The Australian received a huge ovation when he took the floor for the first time with 36 seconds left in the first quarter and another one seconds later when he picked up a foul with the kind of physical play the Cavs were planning to get from him.

Bogut had only been on the court for 58 seconds in his first game with his new team against the Miami Heat on Tuesday (NZ Time), when his left leg clipped Okaro White's right leg in an awkward collision early in the second quarter. He could not put any weight on his left leg, as he was assisted off by team-mates James Jones and Tristan Thompson.

He appeared to tell Cavs staff on the sidelines that he believed his leg was broken.

"Initial x-rays and evaluation. revealed a fractured left tibia", a team statement said.

Bogut broke his left leg less than one minute into his debut and the Cavaliers never recovered while being outgunned 106-98 by the surging and not-to-be-overlooked Miami Heat, who beat the National Basketball Association champions twice in three nights.

Bogut spent four seasons with Golden State, facing the Cavaliers in the past two Finals.

Williams was on deck in Miami but his 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds could not hold back the Heat, who have won 18 of their past 22 matches as they battle the Detroit Pistons for the eight and final playoff berth in the east.

'It was a tough decision, ' Bogut said. Bogut is at the Cleveland Clinic undergoing further tests.

"It's the best opportunity to try to win a championship playing with one of the best, if not the best, players to play the game", he said of joining LeBron James. This decision was exclusively made on, you know - I wasn't making this decision based on Golden State.

Miami's latest impressive victory, however, was overshadowed by the injury to Bogut, who signed with the Cavaliers only last week. Before the game, Bogut was in a playful mood, as he discussed his choice to join the Cavs.

"I'm not quite sure yet whether I'll use him or not".
